Registration of a Branch of a Foreign Company

A branch of a foreign company may be registered in the Maldives. 

Registration of a foreign company branch will be based on the criteria for Foreign Direct Investment.

Information and Documents Required for Application for Registration of a Branch Office

  • The applicant shall indicate a brief description of the business activity 
  • Total investment envisaged 
  • Source of funds
  • Labour and human resource that will be employed, indicating both local and foreign employment
  • Submission of a declaration confirming there is no criminal conviction of the applicant
  • Letter of good standing from a financial institution
  • Copy of registration certificate of the applicant
  • Copy of constitutional documents of the applicant 
  • In case of corporate applicants, a resolution of the applicant resolving to register a branch in the Maldives
  • A document appointing a resident Legal Representative who shall represent the branch office in case of legal proceedings against the branch in the Maldives. 
  • A fee of USD 5000 shall be paid to the Government on approval of the application. The fee shall be paid every five years on renewal.
